AM:PM Awards 2007 - The Winners
The annual AM.PM Award winners have been announced today in the Senedd, and it looks like they didn't pay attention to my suggestion for categories this year.
The winners this year are:
- Politician of the Year
- Newcomer of the Year
- Communicator of the Year
- Campaigner of the Year
- Most Outspoken
Don Touhig MP (Islwyn - Labour)
My favourite quote from the winners came from Adam Price MP who incidentally still hasn't accepted my friendship request on Facebook. During his acceptance speech he classed himself as the creator of a government. Once the BBC reporter asked if blogging etc is merely a way to become a self publicist, a minute later he changed from creator, to his contribution being of a "small role" - Priceless.
Talking of Facebook, it was nice to see so many 'Facebook friends' trying to get themselves on the tele when Ieuan Wyn Jones was making his acceptance speech. Shameful (lol).

Does Price have a role now that Blair has gone and Plaid are in coalition? He'll have to rethink his personal development plan.
How on earth could anyone think Alun Davies is newcomer of the year?
He's loathsome, arrogant and utterly incompetent. I can't recall him having said or done anything at all in the last six months, other than look slimy over the coalition talks. Moreover, he is a mindless sycophant who refuses to talk about anything that Labour have done wrong, because he just can't believe it happened - the Iraq war, or the lack of council house building, for instance. After all, Labour have never made mistakes and would never take money from the wrong people like the Tories. He won the award for "most heckled candidate" when he was the Westminster Labour candidate here 2 years ago, because everyone hated him so much. He was fourth in the ballot, and deservedly so.
Do I give the impression that I don't like him much?
Definitely no substitute for Glyn Davies.
"Do I give the impression that I don't like him much?"
Just a teeny weeny bit :)
My guess is that he won due to being the most vocal of the newcomers, whether good or bad, and it helps that he's courted the media. You can't turn your tv on without seeing him. He must know that his Assembly career will be a short one unless he can get his way on to a constituency seat, or Welsh Labour polls as badly as last May.
It will be a shame if Glyn Davies doesn't get back into mainstream Welsh politics. His blog is a must read, and on my daily list of 'things to do'.
Some people are rather unhappy about the destination of the Communicator of the Year award, since part of that communication was the double-page advert that Mr Price took out in the South Wales Guardian etc. during the Assembly elections
