Trials and tribulations of Government

Whatever you do, don't panic! Gordon Brown isn't the only politician to be having a run of bad luck lately. Here in Wales, the Minister for Heritage, Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM, will be taking on board a second challenge since coming to office. The Welsh media, on the other hand, seem to enjoy the trials and tribulations of the Welsh Assembly Government and always seem to have something to play with.

This run of bad luck tends to come in three, and sometimes that figure is per week.

  1. Wales Millennium Centre
  2. The National Botanic Garden of Wales
  3. What's next?

The deadline is soon, but we may have to put up with a different number three to satisfy the media in the meantime.

Beyond being the garden's local AM, Rhodri Glyn Thomas need not fret too much about horticulture.
Responsibility for the garden has been handed to the minister for the economy - Ieuan Wyn Jones.

Rhodri's luck is in. Ieuan Wyn Jones has taken on the Garden because Rhodri is the local AM. An interesting protocol this. If a Mid and West Wales AM was appointed Minister for Agriculture/Rural Affairs, he or she would not be able to deal with half the issues relevent to the portfolio. Interesting thought - or perhaps not.

Daniel/Glyn - Very interesting situation, and what a way to spread the load in dealing with awkward news for the government.

Very convenient for Rhodri (mark II). He hasn't got the stomach for another bail out and would crack under the pressure of another intense interview.
